Talaash: The Answer Lies Within is a
Suspense thriller mystery
film
starring the Mr. Perfectionist of Indian Film Entertainment World, Amir
Khan in
the male lead and beautiful Kareena
Kapoor and
the versatile Rani
Mukherjee in
the female lead. The film also features Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Vivan Bhatena, Shernaz
Patel and Raj Kumar Yadav in the supporting roles.
Reema
Kagti directed
the film and Amir Khan himself along with Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar produced
the film under the banner of ‘Amir
Khan Productions’ and
Excel Entertainment. The film has been
distributed by Reliance Entertainment in the Domestic and Overseas market. Reportedly
Reliance Entertainment acquired the distribution rights of the film for Rs 90 Crore, while the satellite rights of the film were sold for Rs 40 Crore. Ram
Sampath gave
the music of the film and Javed
Akhtar wrote
the lyrics. It entered the entertainment
world of
Bollywood on 30th November, 2012.
Talaash
released on 520
screens in overseas markets and the estimate for the number of
release screens in India is around 2.500.
Talaash held the new overseas record for an Amir Khan Starrer film with
such a big release in the overseas market. This
film mainly revolves around Amir Khan, who is investigating a mystery murder case of a famous film
star.
The
film has already earned the status of ‘Hit’ in Indian
domestic market and ‘Super hit’
status in the Overseas, as the total budget of the film was not that
high (Rs 40 Crore). On actual scenario Talaash didn't perform as expected in
the Indian domestic market, but it has done exceptionally well in the overseas
market till now. Talaash has managed to attract the multiplex audiences but it didn't be able to fetch that much attention of the single screen audiences of
the mass center.
“Talaash” collected 13.50 Crore nett in India in its opening day of
release. It has seen a considerable growth in the 2nd and
3rd day of release. It collected Rs 14.50
Crore nett in its 2nd day and Rs 18
Crore nett in its 3rd. The total Box office collection of
Talaash for the first weekend was Rs 45 Crore nett in Indian domestic market. The first weekend box office performance of Talaash was below the line of expectation for sure, considering the star power
and past box office records of Amir Khan. In total ‘Talaash’ managed to collect
Rs 68 Crore nett in Indian domestic market and Rs 36.75 Crore in Overseas market in its 1st
week of release, which
was an average performance considering the high build up of the film.
Talaash managed to hold
down well in film
entertainment world in
its 2nd week of release too. It has managed to do so due to the under-performance of another big release Akshay
Kumar Starrer Khiladi 786 especially in multiplexes. Khiladi 786 didn’t be able to score big in
the multiplexes, which eventually helped Talaash to collect good numbers at the
box office.
Talaash collected good consistent numbers on
weekdays in 2nd week. It eventually added Rs 16.75 Crore nett in 2nd week (Indian market). Mumbai circuit has performed the best for the film. Film has collected Rs 84.75 Crore nett plus after 2 weeks of release. But the good
part is now the film has the ultimate opportunity to score decent number on its
3rd week at the box office, as there were no major releases on this Friday.
Film
should add at least Rs
10 Crore nett in
its 3rd week at the Indian market, which means that the film will
finish around Rs
94 Crore nett at
the Indian box office. It has to be mentioned here that on 21st
December, 2012, with the release (perhaps the biggest blockbuster of 2012) of
Salman Khan starrer ‘Dabangg2’,
the film will be almost out of the cinemas. So at present Talaash’s entry to
the 100 crore club is not likely for sure, which is a huge setback for Amir Khan.
